HISTORY OF TROOP 12

On March 14, 1915, Yoshizo Sano and Masanobu Morisue organized a scout troop under the sponsorship of Nippon Gakuin. The Boy Scout of America chartered this troop as Troop 12 with Yoshizo Sano as the first scoutmaster. A Dreamweaving, level-headed storyteller and teacher who saw that young Nissei boys needed to channel their time and energies to personal development rather than hard play and fighting, he served as scoutmaster from the very first until he retired in 1931.

The Drum and Bugle Corps was formed in 1932 when Tsune Baba donated six drum to the troop.Troop 12 Drum and Bugle Cprps rank as one of the better corps in scouting because of its excellent performance, vigor of spirit, and percision marching. One of the historical highlights of the corp was its participation in the Golden Gate International Exposition in 1939 and 1940 when the ranks swelled to 100 members. Another is the 1992 trip to Washington D.C. to march in the July 4th Parade.
